帝女花之香夭


cant get this opera song out of my mind for 2 days. im obsessed with this chinese opera '帝女花' already!

many people have misunderstood this story as another tragic love story (i was one of them), because most people dont know the whole story and thats how the misunderstanding come about. it is not true that they committed suicide for their love, they actually did that for the country. however, it is true that they are damn passionated with each other. =/

This is what the story is about :

樹盟
崇禎末年，明思宗長女長平公主因奉帝命而在乾清宮前連理樹下選駙馬，最後選擇下嫁太僕之子周世顯。

香劫
當時闖王李自成攻入北京宮殿；崇禎因此手刃眾皇女後，自縊於媒山。

乞屍
長平公主雖被明思宗所砍殺，卻未至氣絕，被周鍾拯救送回家中。

庵遇
後來，清軍入關並滅了闖軍，遷都北京。周鍾想向清朝投降，後來得到周鍾之女瑞蘭及老尼姑的相助，避居維摩庵中。世顯偶然經過維摩庵，遇上扮作女尼的長平公主。經過幾番試探後，長平公主才與周世顯相認，並相約於是夜在紫玉山房會面。

迎鳳
此事為清朝皇帝知道了，迫使周世顯與長平公主一同返宮。

香夭
夫妻二人為求清帝善葬皇父，釋放皇弟，遂佯裝返宮，並在乾清宮前連理樹下重相交拜，然後雙雙自殺殉國。
